The Daytona Beach Police Department sells a T-shirt with a caricature of the sheriff dunking a “bad guy” in a toilet, which is labeled “Scumbag Eradication Team,” reports ClickOrlando.com The proceeds from the sale go to the Police Explorers Club, a youth group that helps with education and scholarships.
Now the Daytona Beach police chief could be facing a $100,000 lawsuit because of the T-shirt.
Attorney Sam Masters said the department condones violent behavior — and the T-shirt proves it.
His client, Glarry Williams, 53, suffered broken ribs and a broken eye socket during a 2008 arrest. Williams was stopped while riding his bike for what police believed to be an open container of beer. Police say he resisted, so the officers tackled Williams when he tried to get away from them.
Top cop Mike Chitwood says “[Masters’] opinion is so far south, he’s in Cuba, because if you look at our record, we have cracked down on untruthfulness and excessive force. We don’t tolerate that in this organization,” reports ClickOrlando.com.
